A couple of weeks back,I headed off to a swanky hotel in the heart of London's West End,for afternoon drinks
with the action sports legend that first got me interested in Freestyle over ten years ago...Mr. Travis Pastrana.
Yeah I know, pretty wild huh,but before I tell you the rest of the story,
Travis has a few words of his own,for the members of FmxWorld :)
Travis was recently in Europe,to check out the venues and to do some promo, for the awesome Nitro Circus Live tour.
Which opens at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm on Sunday the 18th of November,
and comes to its climax at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham,on Wednesday the 5th of December.
9.30am Sunday October 21st
I received a text from Lee,one of our photographer buddies, telling me Travis was on a live current affairs program,
on TV,called Sunday Brunch.
I watched the screen, bleary eyed for over an hour before T.P. s bit came on,I hadn't slept a wink all night,
I had been far too excited and seeing him on British television just made me worse
As in a matter of hours I would be finally meeting him in person.,something I have wanted to do for many years.
When i arrived at the hotel in Regents street,I introduced myself at reception, and was promptly escorted through the halls, and faster than you can say Street Bike Tommy,
There I was, shocked and stunned, stood next to Travis Pastrana :)
" Hi im Travis, good to meet you, thanks for coming along "
This was a 100% life affirming, dream come true moment for me,to say I was stoked is an under statement.
After much hand shaking, and the best biggest fan speech, that I could muster through my nerves,we took a seat.
I really had nothing to be nervous about,as it goes,Travis was just awesome, and had me feeling relaxed in no time,
and soon we were locked in conversation, chatting away like we had known eachother for years.
Seriously,it was quite surreal,i will never forget it lol.
We talked about all sorts of things, from city life in London,to Thomas Pages flip free win at X-Fighters.
Travis rates Thomas highly, and is looking forward to seeing how he mixes things up with the rest of the athletes
on the tour, who push each other to come up with new tricks, and go beyond their comfort zone,at every event.
While on the subject of new tricks,
I mentioned seeing a recent video of Travis,on a BMX,attempting a new trick,called The American Roll,
a double backflip with a 360 twist.
I asked if it could be done on a dirtbike,to which he smiled and nodded "anythings possible,it can be done"
A few days later this clip from Nitro Circus The 3D Movie appeared on youtube, and it looks like we will see him land it on a dirtbike sooner than we thought.
After some autograph signing with three young fans, and some media stuff,we sat down again to record the video messages, and as we hadn't planned to do an interview at that time,we talked about the early years of freestyle,
and the different characters from back in the day, like Cowboy Kenny,Mike Metzgar, and Ronnie Kung Fu Faisst.
We talked about how fmx has evolved since Travis first won X-Games,and how fast huge tricks like front flips
and flares, have started to emerge, after Travis reset the bar with the double flip.
Reminiscing with Travis was awesome, and a dream come true in many ways for me.
But the main topic of the day,and why we were there, was of course the upcoming Nitro Circus Live European tour.
Travis answered many questions from the media about it over the course of the afternoon.
Most of which are here in this great interview, recorded in Berlin two days after his London visit.
Travis talks in depth about the tour, the no-chute jump, fear, and more....Check it out !

Travis wasn't the only Pastrana in London, that afternoon.his wife pro skateboarder LynZ was too.
I managed a few moments with her while Travis spoke to some of the other guests.
I asked if being married had affected the way they calculate the risk factor, when planning new stunts.
They explained that they do talk things over, but as as they are both from an action sports background,
they have an understanding, and knew what they were letting themselves in for when they got together..
It was so cool to meet them together, the chemistry between them is obvious.
They really do make the perfect, all action couple .
We have been following the tour since 2010,and have loved watching the Nitro Athletes on our screens.
Breaking world records, bones and boundaries,as the tricks have got bigger and the crowds have got wilder.
In just a few days time, its Europe's turn to witness the mayhem first hand
It will be the worlds biggest and most audacious action sports production ever staged.
To see it live,is going to be insane, and we can't wait.
If you haven't got your tickets yet, better get on it fast, three shows have sold out already.

I would like to thank Travis, lynZ,Red Bull,Caroline,Sam,and all the people behind the scenes, for having me along.
You guys are the best ! I
Can't wait to see you all again at The O2 in December, its going to be totally wicked redonkulous :)
